On Oct. 12 when Turner Classic Movies runs a 24-hour marathon of movies as a tribute to the late Paul Newman.
The marathon of 11 films, announced yesterday, starts at 6 a.m. with "The Rack" (1956), in which Newman played a brainwashed Korean War veteran. It ends the next morning at 4 a.m. with "The Outrage" (1964), about a Mexican bandit (Newman) accused of rape.
Between "The Rack" and "The Outrage," the other films are, in order, "Until They Sail" (1957), "Torn Curtain" (1966), "Exodus" (1960), "Sweet Bird of Youth" (1962), "Hud" (1963), "Somebody Up There Likes Me" (1956), "Cool Hand Luke" (1967), "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1958) and "Rachel, Rachel" (1968).

The official HDYSAPLM site has videos of the girls going into the live show. Half of them have JB in it doing his Maria School thang (though looks like he had to sneak a peak at his lines for a sec). Some of it was aired on the show itself, but some of it wasn't. Oh hugging JB for ages, that wouldn't be much hardship.( Read more... )
I just saw this posting here that John's signing stuff at the same booth as Gareth. It's not posted on the company's site yet or confirmed by George/Gavin.
Anyone else going? It'd be nice to meet fellow LJ-ers. I'm going for work anyway so news of Gareth and now possibly John are there is icing. I will caution like most cons cancellations may be possible (the TW panel last year didn't have John or Eve in the end and it's bumping close to the rumored filming date for S3).

So no ALW for us. Instead we get MTV search for the new lead for Legally Blonde with Hillary Duff as the host (?!?!) This one will have no audience voting and will be only 8 episodes. They have pretty good Broadway folks as judges: Jerry Mitchell and casting agent Bernard Telsey. And Seth Rudetsky and the show's cast members also around to help the 10 girls.

As if a girl can't get enough of the Barrowman in England, he's going to Canada to judge the version of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? which airs June 17th.
It's cool but also bad as it's really difficult to find Canadian TV as well most people in Canada watch UK or US TV. Their original programming is pretty sparse. I guess we can only hope it's popular enough to warrant someone capping it. I've already asked in a few places, so far nada. ::sigh::

Haven't posted much as I've been so busy, but now we're nearly to the end already.
The episodes were good all round, good arc for Owen. The Gwen episode was nice as she was actually investigating and useful for once. And of course the half naked Jack and Ianto. Woo-hoo.

Yes John's back with another musical search with ALW, Denise and Graham.

The show was much more compressed for time, with the Hand of Doom and performance in the small theatre stuck in episode 2. It was a bit hard to figure out the girls but so far Jodie and Cleo are the two favorites.
The Olivers were cute, though they all seem really trained already. Makes sense really can't have brand new newbies who don't know downstage from upstage going on the West End stage.
Also read in the news, ALW would do only 2 more series. Makes sense since his Phanthom sequel will be done by then.

Yeah my DVD came. Love the no overlapping disks. This is the way to do thinpacks. It does suck they don't have a booklet to let you know what exactly on the disks besides just the episodes and declassifieds. Off to watch all the goodies.

Torchwood has some good press leading up to the season 2 premiere on BBCA - mentions in the LA Times, Tv Guide, NY Times, NY Post and syndicated articles at a bunch of smaller papers (Fresno Bee etc).
My Torchwood DVDs are scheduled to arrive tommorrow. Yes! Still waiting for my first issue of the TW magaazine. New TW books and JB's autobiography are on pre-order. Pondering importing audiobooks, but I'll wait a bit and see if they pop up in the US later in the year as the printed stuff did. I hate being in the States sometimes. Being an anglophile is PITA when you have to import so much stuff. But the worst has just happened. My DirecTV is not working and I can't get a tech for 2 weeks! What the hell is going on, everyone's box is broken? Tons of people had problems during the NFL playoffs on Sunday. Arrgh now I can't watch the American edited TW. I want to see the US promos. sigh. Thankfully I did see the BBC version. Still it'd be nice to see it on my TV.
In light of that news here's some ( Kiss Kiss Bang Bang rambling blogging )
Basically, Torchwood is back. Snarky, in-jokes abound, boykissing with cast & guest star and Gwen was useful. Looking good. With 3 million+ and of AI:84 in the UK, should be renewed for season 3 if it keeps up.

The BBC TW site updated, but they blocked everyone but UK peeps. But there are ways. Mwahahah. ;) Yeah new wallpaer!!

Oh BBCA you do try so hard to make up for not being in the UK. They just ran the longer season 2 promo with clips! It was way to fast for me to see much, did see JM and FA. Major spoilers under cut. ( Read more... )

Check out the trailer for Torchwood starring Peter (and Issac) from Heroes.
Speaking of Heroes (which was ehhh this season): "I really hope he's [Nathan (played by Adrian Pasdar)] not going anywhere," Ventimiglia told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Wednesday. "That would be really disappointing to me to lose a brother and an amazing scene partner. I'm sure it's all going to work out the way it's supposed to." [USA Today]
I thought it was just me and my slashy sensibility seeing Peter and Nathan have some odd incest-y vibe. But the internets and LJ say no. Did ya see that scene they had together in the finale? Good lord is that some chemistry those two have, really sucks they're related on the show. I think that's one huge problem with Heroes there's no romantic vibe from any of the characters and the ones that have vibes are relatives.

BBCA is the bestest in the world. They're airing the show Jan 26th, meaning it'll air just a few days/weeks after the Uk airing!! How wonderful is that. Mind you I still want to see the UK cut of it, but how awesome is it they squashed the time down to less than 1 month? That new CEo/president guy needs a big hug of gratitude.
Now he just needs to get JB to do some press here. Damn I hope its not the winter TCA press tour as I don't have access to that - still mad I didn't get to glom on with the Tv people at work. Maybe JB can do some promo for his album/autobiography/Torchwood in the spring. A girl can dream right?
